Shopping in Florence

Florence is not properly a place where to do a cheap shopping. In fact, except for the small markets that take place in the streets and squares, the charm and neatness that characterize the city spread out and mark its boutiques and shopping streets.

In Florence there are many outdoors markets, where you can find quite everything, selling from second hand clothes and objects to souvenirs. For example, the San Lorenzo market is situated in the city-centre, and it’s probably the favourite destination by tourists (it’s famous for its food delicatessens).

The “Mercato Nuovo”, instead, is famous for its leather-made clothes and bags’ sale.

Again, the “Mercato della Pulce” takes place in Piazza Santa Croce every Sunday, and it’s the best place where you can really make some advantageous and cheap purchases, spending beer money for antique objects.

However, Florence has also a second face in terms of shopping, surely more notorious and appealing than this first one related to the street markets.

Florence is in fact one of the leading places selling gold and silver jewellery; along the Ponte Vecchio there are some of the most expensive jewelleries and boutiques, famous worldwide for their luxury.

Florence is also one of the main high fashion localities; almost the all fashion designer have their boutiques and headquarters here: from Gucci to Emilio Pucci, Salvatore Ferragamo.
